Understairs storage

This was an interesting project because it was for a listed 1880's cottage in Steyning.

The footprint of the room and the shape of the stairs could not be changed. The owners also wanted a practical storage solution for contemporary living that 'looked like it had always been there'.

The solution was an angled concertina door, paneled to match the period woodwork. The brief also involved building a cupboard to hide the utility meters and fuse-box (on the left) and building a new door for the existing understair store (on the far right). I wood-turned new handles to match others in the property.

The bespoke built fitted furniture is fit for purpose and period.
